A Generous Person Will Prosper; Whoever Refreshes Others Will be Refreshed.

What does giving means, my friends today we will talk about giving? Since childhood we are taught about giving. I believe everyone is thinking about the tithe.

My friends the first thought that comes in our mind are the 10% of our income to tithe a monthly tithe.

So we follow a simple Bible principle of 10% of what we earn as our moral duty.

Proverb 11:25 A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

So when we believe that 10% is our moral duty why does Bible speaks of a generous giver.

This may contradict your thought with

2 Corinthians 8:12 For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.

So most of the time we wonder about giving, we notice across globe some people busy working extra hours so that they can make a fixed monthly donations to the Bible missions they support may be a Church ministry, may be an orphanage, may be an old age home. There are people who think they should contribute what as per the standard formula laid down in Bible of 10%.

My friends the Bible speak about giving, Ok let me say in other words-

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

So, God loved us so much that he gave his only son.

What we gave are we-

1 Corinthians 16:1–2 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I directed the churches of Galatia, so do you also. On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come.

I see many Christians donating for many causes, but the question arises how much should I give?

At the same time another questions come into place

  1. Who should give?
  2. Why should I give?
  3. What will happen when I give?

Answer number one giving is a privilege for those who have received from God. So all those who believe must give to God.

Answer number 2 we are not to give under compulsion; some may say I want God to be glorified.

I say one should give because you are blessed “John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

And the last what will happen –

  • God blesses faith and obedience which are at the heart of biblical giving
  • God will be glorified.
  • God’s work and workers will not be hindered. The needs of the poor will be met.
