Philippians 1:9-10 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ
Dear Friends Greetings for the day!!
Today we shall look this morning at the elements of glorifying God. St Paul is thanking the Lord for the Philippians, and the joy that they have brought him. So, as we move into verses 9-11, we see that Paul had a passion for the spiritual development of his people. We can see this passion revealed in his prayer life. This is the focus of his prayer life. So, it was Paul’s passion to pray for the spiritual maturity of believers.
So, we can see in the Bible that Paul was not praying for physical needs. He prayed for Epaphroditus who was sick and no doubt there must be people with physical needs. Paul was into prayers for spiritual needs of his people. That was his passion for prayer and serving God.
Hence, we need to understand in today’s time what God is seeking from us. We need to understand what we are praying for and what and how is our prayer life. Do we pray for the spiritual health of ourselves and other believers?
Well!! behind every prayer request is a desire! We mostly pray only for physical or material needs.
So, we believe that health and material thing will bring us happiness. This is not true. Our happiness comes from our relationship with God.
We need to glory in our problems because God will be glorified in them. Now the question comes How??? How will I get gloried in my problem?
So, we believe Prayer is our duty. No, prayer is a declaration of our dependency. Our prayer life should declare that we are dependent upon God for everything.
Apart from God, we don’t have the ability to love. But as believers, we can love others with God’s love.
It is not about a feeling it is about a divine virtue given by God. This love is not the result of an emotional attraction. God didn’t love us because we were attractive, God made man in his own image and likeness.
True love desires things that are excellent because true love is controlled by a deep knowledge of the word which enables the believer to be completely discerning and discriminating, and that leads him to a pursuit of things that are excellent.
It is the ability to distinguish good from bad, and focus time and energy on what really matters. It is the ability to prioritize.
It is time of full bible knowledge. If the teachings of our lord aren’t at first place in our life than Christ isn’t first place in your life. Jesus Christ is the Living word. The Bible is the written word; it is the written word that reveals the Living word. It is the written word that causes us to grow spiritually that we might glorify the Living word, Jesus Christ.
